A good quality boot will have a tongue that will be attached to the shoe, it will not be a separate strip that can leak water down the sides. The type of leather also makes the difference between a quality shoe and an inexpensive one. The economic skin is not always leather and if it is, it is not as soft and adaptable as the quality one. Good leather gradually takes the shape of the foot and makes the shoe more and more comfortable, while poor quality leather will always rub and cannot be tamed.
